What is Multiple Sclerosis Rehab?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune condition where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the protective coating around nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord. This disrupts the signals travelling between the brain and the rest of the body, leading to a wide range of physical and neurological symptoms.
MS affects each person differently. Some experience numbness and tingling, while others may develop significant weakness, balance problems, or difficulty walking.
Symptoms can come and go in episodes called relapses, or gradually worsen over time.
Fatigue is one of the most common and debilitating symptoms of MS, often described as an overwhelming exhaustion that is completely different from ordinary tiredness. It can significantly limit a person's ability to work, exercise, and enjoy daily activities.
Physiotherapy is one of the most effective ways to manage MS symptoms and maintain physical function for as long as possible. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce fatigue, improve mood, and slow the decline in mobility.
At Kinesio Rehab, we design flexible rehabilitation programmes that adapt to the fluctuating nature of MS, pushing you forward during good periods and providing supportive care during relapses.

Multiple Sclerosis Rehab — FAQs
Is exercise safe for people with multiple sclerosis?
Yes, exercise is not only safe but strongly recommended for people with MS. Research consistently shows that regular, appropriately dosed exercise improves strength, balance, fatigue levels, and overall quality of life. The key is working with a physiotherapist who understands MS and can adjust exercise intensity to avoid overheating or excessive fatigue.
Will physiotherapy cure my MS?
Physiotherapy cannot cure MS, as it is a chronic condition. However, it is one of the most effective ways to manage physical symptoms, maintain mobility, and slow functional decline. Many patients find that regular physiotherapy significantly improves their quality of life and ability to remain independent.
How do you manage exercise with MS fatigue?
We use careful fatigue management strategies, including scheduling sessions at your peak energy times, breaking exercises into shorter bouts, and monitoring your response to activity. We teach energy conservation techniques that help you get more done with less fatigue throughout the day.
Can I exercise during an MS relapse?
During an active relapse, we typically reduce exercise intensity and focus on gentle stretching, positioning, and maintaining range of motion. As the relapse settles, we gradually increase activity levels. Your physiotherapist will adjust your programme based on how you are feeling each session.
