Surgery Done, but Recovery Stalling? Post-Surgery Physiotherapy That Works.

5,000+ patients recovered. Expert physiotherapy to help you heal faster, regain strength, and return to the activities you love — without the fear of re-injury.

Your Recovery

Why Post-Surgery Physiotherapy Matters

Surgery is only half the journey. The operation repairs or replaces damaged tissue, but it is the rehabilitation that follows which determines how well you actually recover.

Without proper post-surgical physiotherapy, patients risk developing joint stiffness, muscle weakness, compensatory movement patterns, and even re-injury. These complications can significantly delay your return to normal life and, in some cases, lead to the need for revision surgery.

A structured rehabilitation programme ensures optimal tissue healing, restores strength and mobility at the right pace, and guides you through a safe, progressive return to daily activities, work, and sport.

Prevent stiffness and scar tissue adhesions
Rebuild strength lost during immobilisation
Restore full range of motion and flexibility
Correct compensatory movement patterns
Achieve a safe return to sport and activity
Reduce the risk of re-injury and revision surgery

Recovery Timeline

Your Post-Surgery Recovery Journey

While every surgery and patient is different, most post-surgical rehabilitation follows a general progression through four key phases.

Phase 1 Week 1–2

Protection & Early Healing

Pain management, swelling control, gentle range of motion exercises, and wound care to create the foundation for recovery.

Phase 2 Week 2–6

Restoring Mobility

Progressive mobility exercises, early strengthening, scar tissue management, and gradual increase in weight-bearing activities.

Phase 3 Week 6–12

Functional Strengthening

Functional strengthening, balance and proprioception training, activity-specific exercises, and building endurance for daily tasks.

Phase 4 Month 3–6+

Return to Full Activity

Return to sport or work, performance training, injury prevention strategies, and long-term maintenance programmes.

Note: Timelines vary by surgery type, individual health factors, and surgical complexity. Your physiotherapist will create a personalised recovery plan tailored to your specific procedure and goals.

Post-Surgery Rehabilitation: Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start physiotherapy after surgery?

In most cases, physiotherapy should begin within the first 1–2 weeks after surgery, and sometimes even earlier depending on the procedure. Early mobilisation has been shown to improve outcomes, reduce complications like blood clots and stiffness, and speed up recovery. Your surgeon will typically provide a referral or clearance for physiotherapy to begin.

How long does post-surgery rehabilitation take?

Recovery timelines vary depending on the surgery. ACL reconstruction typically requires 9–12 months of structured rehab. Total knee or hip replacements usually take 3–6 months. Rotator cuff repairs may need 4–6 months. Spinal surgeries vary widely. We set realistic milestones at each phase and adjust your program based on your progress.

Do you coordinate with my surgeon?

Yes. We work closely with orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other specialists across Klang Valley. We follow your surgeon's post-operative protocols and provide progress reports as needed. If you have specific restrictions or precautions from your surgeon, please bring your discharge notes to your first session.

Can I do physiotherapy at home after surgery?

Yes. We offer premium home physiotherapy visits across Selangor and Klang Valley, which are ideal for patients who have difficulty travelling after surgery. Our physiotherapist brings all necessary equipment to your home and provides the same quality of care as in-clinic sessions.

What should I bring to my first post-surgery physiotherapy session?

Please bring your surgical report or discharge summary, any imaging results (X-rays, MRI), your surgeon's post-operative protocol or restrictions, a list of current medications, and comfortable clothing that allows access to the surgical area. This helps us design the safest and most effective rehabilitation plan for you.
