Bone Setting Therapy
Stiff, locked, or "out of place" joints? Our physiotherapists use skilled hands-on bone setting and joint mobilisation to restore natural movement — no cracking for show, just precise, assessment-led care.
Overview
Bone setting is one of the oldest hands-on healing traditions in the world — practised across Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities in Malaysia long before modern clinics existed. At Kinesio Rehab, we bring that hands-on tradition into a modern physiotherapy setting, where every technique is guided by anatomical assessment, clinical reasoning, and safety checks rather than guesswork. Our physiotherapists are trained in manual therapy and joint mobilisation, so the "bone setting" we perform is precise, evidence-informed, and tailored to what your body actually needs.
Let us be clear about what this is and what it is not. We are qualified physiotherapists performing manual realignment, joint mobilisation, and soft-tissue release. We do not perform forceful, unassessed manipulation, and we never treat before we understand the cause. Many patients come to us after a joint has felt "stuck," "twisted," or "out of place" following an awkward movement, a fall, poor sleeping posture, or years of repetitive strain. That feeling is usually caused by restricted joint mobility, protective muscle guarding, or a joint sitting slightly outside its optimal resting position — all of which respond extremely well to skilled hands-on treatment.
Your first session begins with a thorough 45-minute assessment. Your physiotherapist examines the affected joint and the ones above and below it, tests your range of motion, checks muscle length and strength, and screens for anything that would make hands-on treatment unsafe — such as recent fractures, inflammatory conditions, osteoporosis risk, or nerve involvement. Only once we understand exactly what is restricted do we begin treatment. This is the single biggest difference between what we do and traditional walk-in bone setting: we assess first, and we adapt the technique to your body, your age, and your bone health.
Treatment combines graded joint mobilisation to restore movement in stiff spinal and peripheral joints, gentle realignment techniques to guide a joint back toward its natural resting position, and soft-tissue release to calm the muscle guarding that keeps a joint locked. For older patients or those with fragile bones, we use slower, lower-force techniques that are just as effective without any risk. Every session ends with movement retraining and simple home exercises, because a joint that has been freed up needs to be re-taught how to move well — otherwise the stiffness returns.
Most patients feel a meaningful difference in movement and comfort within the first one to three sessions. Longstanding stiffness or recurring "out of place" sensations usually need four to eight sessions combined with a home program, so the improvement holds without you needing to keep coming back. We will always give you a realistic timeline at the first visit — if we do not think hands-on treatment is right for your problem, we will tell you and point you to what is.
Bone setting therapy at Kinesio Rehab is well suited to people with stiff or restricted joints, that nagging "something is out of place" feeling in the back or neck, longstanding postural stiffness, or joints that lock up after injury or overuse. It is delivered at our Putra Heights clinic and, for patients who find travelling difficult, through premium home visits across the Klang Valley. Whether your stiffness started last week or has followed you for years, the first step is the same: a careful assessment, followed by skilled hands that know exactly where — and how much — to work.

Common Problems We Solve
Our Treatment Process
Assessment
We examine the affected joint and the ones above and below it, test your range of motion, and screen for anything that would make hands-on treatment unsafe — fractures, osteoporosis risk, inflammation, or nerve involvement.
Explanation
We explain in plain language what is actually causing the "out of place" or stiff feeling — usually restricted joint mobility, muscle guarding, or a joint sitting outside its optimal position.
Hands-On Realignment
Using graded joint mobilisation and gentle realignment techniques, we restore movement and guide the joint back toward its natural resting position, with force adapted to your body and bone health.
Soft-Tissue Release
We release the surrounding muscle guarding that keeps the joint locked, so the improvement in movement holds rather than snapping back.
Movement Retraining
We teach you movements and home exercises to re-educate the freed-up joint, so stiffness does not simply return between sessions.
Why Choose Us
The difference between us and traditional walk-in bone setting is simple: we assess before we treat. Our lead physiotherapist Thurairaj has over 13 years of clinical experience and more than 5,000 patient cases, and every hands-on technique we use is guided by anatomical knowledge and safety screening — not guesswork or a one-size-fits-all crack.
We respect the hands-on healing traditions many Malaysians grew up with, and we deliver that same relief within a modern physiotherapy framework — precise, safe, and adapted to your age and bone health. If hands-on treatment is not right for your problem, we will tell you honestly and guide you to what is.
Bone Setting Therapy — FAQs
Is this the same as traditional bone setting?
It comes from the same hands-on healing tradition, but with an important difference: we are qualified physiotherapists who assess your joint and screen for safety before we treat. The techniques are precise, graded, and adapted to your body — not forceful, unassessed handling. You get the relief of skilled hands with the safety of a clinical assessment.
Will you crack or click my joints?
A click can sometimes happen naturally during gentle joint mobilisation, but we never force a joint just to produce a cracking sound. The goal is to restore movement safely, not to make noise. Many effective sessions involve no cracking at all.
Is bone setting safe for older adults or people with osteoporosis?
Yes, when done correctly. This is exactly why assessment matters. For older patients or those with fragile bones, we use slower, lower-force techniques that restore movement without any risk. We screen for osteoporosis risk before any hands-on treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
Many patients feel a meaningful difference within one to three sessions. Longstanding stiffness or recurring "out of place" sensations usually need four to eight sessions combined with a home program, so the improvement holds without you needing to keep returning.
My joint feels "out of place" — can you put it back?
That sensation is usually caused by restricted joint mobility, muscle guarding, or a joint sitting slightly outside its optimal resting position — rather than a bone being truly dislocated. Skilled hands-on mobilisation and realignment restore normal movement and resolve that feeling. If we find a true structural problem that needs imaging or referral, we will tell you.
Do you offer bone setting at home?
Yes. We provide premium home-visit bone setting therapy across the Klang Valley for patients who find travelling difficult, including elderly and post-injury patients — the same qualified physiotherapist and the same assessment-led care, delivered to your doorstep.
